Translating and Editing Combined
My PhD thesis dealt with the Church Reformation in the time of Henry the Eighth, when most correspondence and official documents were in Latin. Initially, I hired Ela to translate these documents for me, ranging from declarations by the Pope to private correspondence between the key players in my study. Her translations always came back quickly, in idiomatic English, and enabled me to achieve great clarity in my research.
It emerged from our discussions that Ela knew enough about that period of history to be able to make suggestions for my research itself. In the end, she proofread my whole thesis several times. English is not my first language, and she helped me to make it highly idiomatic. At the same time, she made several substantive suggestions about the thesis content that improved the overall quality of the work.
