A New Home

So, this is my home. I never used to mind that my blogger blog changed its surname to .co.il when I was in Israel or .co.de in Germany or .co.uk in England. My name, too, sounds different in different countries. It sounds different in every mouth that speaks it, but the same "sort" of different in different countries.

Now here I am in Tucson...

...and I'm not the chicken girl as I started out; I'm living in this lovely little house, the most personal space I've ever had in my life, with a big yard around it (yes, I'm saying it because I want to develop that too), making my own negotiations with the insect kingdom and etheric waves.

Is it coincidence, then, that I'm finally getting serious about this website business? It's true, I've been making noises for over a year about having a "proper" website; I even got a wordpress blog with my own domain name (mirroring the blogger one). And I killed my blog's visibility by duplicating it on the two platforms while I failed to take further action out of ignorance and a failure to rectify that ignorance. I wasn't just sitting on the fence; I was riding two moving horses, one foot on the back of each. From this position of instability, you can (a) transfer to one of the two horses or (b) get pulled apart trying to ride both or (c) bail out. My intention was to do (a), through ignorance I was doing (b), getting racked farther and farther into the splits...

And now I'm doing (c)! Start over. Start fresh. Do it right. Not wordpress. Not blogger. Not "ulteriorharmony," which means a great deal to me personally but which is a huge mouthful for anyone to say/remember/type into a browser. Instead, my own name, which also regularly gets mispronounced but which is like the dreamcatcher on which all my efforts and words and acts and interactions hang. ElaHarrison.com (tweet-tumble-stumble-google-hug-pray-hum) Dreamcatcher, and business card, and mailbox.

Not wordpress or blogger? Yes, I also thought those were the only "real" blogging platforms. But this website is built on Joomla, which has the desirable quality of being open source, as well as many other elegancies.

So, bring it on! I've left behind both of those two horses and am starting afresh and, as I knew would be the case, it's going to entail some steep learning. I'll share some of what I learn as and when it seems interesting. I'm so eager to do the learning; I was eager to do so even while treading water getting pulled apart by horses (mixing metaphors as ever).

I am grateful to get to create an elegant, useful, dynamic, inspiring website. I look forward to your input in helping me make it the best it can be.
